Introduction In October, 2007, after serving 30 years in the federal government, Margie retired to develop a new career as a food and travel writer. For the bulk of her career, she worked at the Smithsonian Institution. In 1985, she transfered to the National Zoo where she wrote feature stories for Smithsonian publications and organized the Zoo’s popular public lecture series. In June, 2003, she moved to southern Germany, and a job as an editor at the Marshall Center, a defense security studies institute. Margie has traveled extensively throughout Europe and North America. She speaks German, picked up a bit of Russian and basic Italian, and studies the Hackbrett, an Alpine folk instrument.
