Introduction I've been a member of the firstmother sisterhood since relinquishing my daughter to a closed adoption in 1976. My daughter "found" me in January 2000. (Found isn't really the right word. I left a trail of neon colored breadcrumbs; all it took was one phone call to our adoption agency and we were speaking to one another seven hours later.) We had a typical reunion roller coaster relationship; I haven't spoken to her in over five years, and she completely ignored me when I saw her this past summer at a family wedding. I've worked hard to create a "logical" rather than "biological" family and my life is rich and full in spite of this defining moment in my life.
Interests Culture, Culture, Culture! and "The greater good of the order"
Favorite Movies Too many to list, but I usually will see anything with Colin Firth. Love period, independent, and foreign films. Past favorites include Room With a View, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, Something's Gotta Give.
Favorite Music Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Crosby Stills Nash & Young are in permanent rotation. My husband calls it melancholy college girl music. My tastes are eclectic. I listen to WFUV, 90.7 FM out of Fordham University in the Bronx to stay on the cutting edge of hipness. More contemporary favorites include Toby Lightman, a terrific young singer/songerwriter from NYC, Sonya Kitchell, Shelby Lynne, the British birds such as Amy Winehouse, Corrine Bailey Rae, Adele, Duffy. Will always love the Beatles over the Stones, Bob over Bruce. Also like Eric Clapton in all his incarnations, and indie singer/songwriters David Wilcox, Jim Boggia and my current crush, James Maddock. The list goes on and on.
Favorite Books Another tough choice, too many to list! When I was a senior in high school I was blown away by The Fountainhead. Shadow of the Wind has it all--romance, history, suspense. Girls Like Us was my favorite book of 2008. I read everything--memoirs, biography, fiction, nonfiction. I also like and collect children's books.
