About me

Gender Female
Occupation retired psychotherapist
Location Medford, OR, United States
Introduction I was born and grew up in the mountains of Virginia on New River with parents who loved the earth and taught their children organic gardening, took us on nature outings, and wrote letters to the editor about polluters and politicians. I graduated from Berea College, KY and Kansas State University, Manhattan, and married. We have one son, John a high school drama teacher, who was a candidate for state legislature in Oregon in 2005. In 1976 I was elected county commissioner and was recalled in 1979. I survived threats to my life, hate mail, daily media exposure, and over time recovered from resulting PTSD. I was the first licensed marriage and family therapist in Oregon, worked with emotionally disturbed children and adolescents before conducting a private practice, specializing in treating women and men who experienced childhood sexual abuse. My son got me interested in blogs and I read four nearly every day. I comment under two tags, "cando" and "walkabout." Went to YearlyKos in '07 and looking forward to Austin.
