Introduction | I'm a sociocultural anthropologist with research interests in Africa and the African diaspora; museums and memory work; ritual and globalization; community conservation and social adaptation to environmental transformation; public art and popular aesthetics in comparative perspective including, at the present moment, artistic responses to the Covid-19 pandemic. I have directed the Michigan State University Museum in East Lansing, Michigan. and the Museum of Culture and Environment at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. I'm the author of the book, "The Accidental Slaveowner: Revisiting a Myth of Race and Finding an American Family" (Univ. of Georgia Press, 2011) |
