Introduction My mother is from Champaign and I've been a fan of the Illinois basketball since I was knee-high to Kenny Battle. The earliest memories I have are of the ’89 team coached by Lou Henson with Battle, Kendall Gill, Nick Anderson, Lowell Hamilton, Marcus Liberty and Stephen Bardo. Nicknamed the “Flying Illini,” they went to the Final Four that year and lost to Michigan—a team they had beaten twice during the regular season—by two points. I watched the game at my aunt’s wedding reception in Champaign. I’ve been to probably a dozen Illini games in my lifetime, but I never miss one on national TV. Those that aren’t on TV (we’re not the ACC, so some of our games actually aren’t televised) I follow online. I enjoyed following so many of the players that have worn the Illinois uniform over the years, including Kiwane Garris, Deon Thomas, Andy Kauffman, Frank Williams and Brian Cook. I truly believe that the Illini are one of the best programs (if not the best) that has never won an NCAA men’s basketball title. I hope I don’t have to wait much longer. I always enjoy hearing from other Illini or college basketball fans, so feel free to email me: illiniwonk @gmail.com. Go Illini!
