Introduction | Michael was born in 1944 and grew up in and around Moncton, New Brunswick on the east coast of Canada. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he later trained as a pilot. From his early twenties through his late thirties, he made a name for himself as an exploratory mountaineer, with over six dozen first ascents on four continents. In the late ‘60s he transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy and after eighteen years service, he resigned his commission to pursue his wine and numismatic passions. He expanded his wine business, became a Certified Wine Educator, a wine writer, critic and judge. In the early 1990s he set-up in the coin trade, served as President of the Canadian Association of Numismatic Dealers and later as President of the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association. In 2008 he shut-down his coin auction business, the Canadian Coinoisseur to outfit his boat and sail south from Vancouver, around Cape Horn. Edi and Michael sailed their new cutter-rigged sloop, Sequitur from Vancouver down the west coasts of the Americas, around Cape Horn and up the east coasts from 2009 to 2012. They are now continuing their journey in a century-old skûtsje along the European canals. |
