Introduction	The Cranky Critter is a regular American who wants to talk about the problems America faces in a sane but colorful way. We can curse and laugh and rant and take as good as we dish out. The easily offended can flunk themselves off this blog straightaway. I'm looking for folks with passion and insight who can act with grace and thoughtfulness when their core beliefs and assumptions are challenged. For now, this blog's operating assumption/core belief is that we're not being well-served by partisans on either side of the debate. And we're also not being well-served by ourselves, to whatever extent we shy away from unpleasant and inconvenient truths. This'll do for now. Cranky 8/9/10
