Gender Female
Occupation Writer

Introduction I'm Allison Symes. I write fairytales with bite as short stories (including flash fiction) and novels. I sometimes write poetry. I blog for Chandler's Ford Today and the Association of Christian Writers. I'm also a member of the Society of Authors. My favourite authors include Terry Pratchett, P.G. Wodehouse, Jane Austen and Agatha Christie. I read non-fiction too and am fond of Ben Macintyre's works. I've recently discovered the joys of Bernard Cornwell's Last Kingdom series. I have had stories in print anthologies published by Bridge House Publishing and Cafelit (and will have more appearing with both later this year). I have also had work online at Cafelit, Alfie Dog Fiction, Shortbread Short Stories (archived) and Scriggler.com (US based). I have two websites - www.fairytaleswithbite.weebly.com where I discuss the world of my stories. The other site is allisonsymes-thisworldandothers.weebly.com and here I share writing tips and prompts. I am creating on WordPress a "collected works" where the best of my pieces, along with links, will be in one easy to find place. Will update when this is ready.
Interests I love reading, writing, swimming, walking (especially with my border collie), baking (collie is always after samples but doesn't get them!) and really appreciate the warmth and kindness of my church fellowship.
Favorite Movies The Lord of the Rings trilogy Star Wars (the originals!) Skyfall Spectre: thought these Bonds really good Most of the Carry Ons - I do like a laugh The Terry Pratchett adaptations - Hogfather, The Colour of Magic and Going Postal and many others.
Favorite Music Have wide tastes in music. Love classical, rock, pop from all eras. Probably be easier to say what I don't like! (Am not keen on hip hop, rap etc).
Favorite Books The Lord of the Rings The Daughter of Time All of Terry Pratchett but especially Reaper Man, Men at Arms, Going Postal and Raising Steam. Pride and Prejudice All by Wodehouse but especially anything with Jeeves and Wooster. All by Agatha Christie but especially Murder on the Orient Express Operation Mincemeat Churchill's Wizards and far too many to put in here!
