Introduction | Director of the Akron Area Arts Alliance since September 1999, I also coordinate public relations and marketing for Don Drumm Studios & Gallery, one of the country’s top ten retailers of contemporary crafts. The Arts Alliance is an advocacy group representing 46 arts and cultural organizations and 70 artists and arts supporters. A former Sunday columnist for the Akron Beacon Journal newspaper and freelance feature writer for many area magazines, I earned a BA in liberal arts from Ohio Wesleyan University and MA in news-editorial journalism from Kent State University. I minored in art history in graduate school. My three amazing children are scattered all over. Andy (29), an Asian studies scholar with a MA from Duke, lives in Shenzhen, China. Anne (26) is working on a MFA in graphic design at Savannah College of Art & Design in Georgia. Leigh (21) is an honors senior at Denison University. I read at least four books per month, both fiction and non, plus love road trips, especially when I have the time to get lost. |
Interests | Actually I am interested in just about anything except celebrity news and reality TV shows (except those crazy New Jersey housewives). My special interests are Civil War and maritime history. |
Favorite Movies | Two for the Road with Albert Finney and Audrey Hepburn, Animal House, Jaws, and almost anything Coen Brothers |
Favorite Music | Opera gives me chills -- the good kind. |
Favorite Books | Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole plus all books by Tony Horwitz, Patrick O'Brian, and Carl Hiaasen (except that golf thing) |
