About me

Introduction OPERATION PURPLE HEART was founded by, R. B. STUART. It was born out of learning that her sister, an Army Captain Chaplain had returned from a year tour in Iraq with Cancer, two years to the date of deployment. While the family was supporting her at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in D.C., they discovered other soldiers were being diagnosed with rare cancers and the DoD hadn't gone public with their findings. It spawned a two part feature article entitled, "The Unspoken Casualties of The War in Iraq" [April 2006, The Independent - East Hampton, NY]. With the family's frustration with the DoDs lack of acknowledgment that the soldiers are returning from Iraq & Afghanistan with Cancer, coupled with their denial that Cancer isn't a "War Wound"---leaves many inflicted with the life threatening illness uncertain, and fearful of their own mortality and military career. Leaving the new Veteran's of the Iraq war afraid of the furture. Our hope is that this site will provide information while letting you know...YOU are not alone. [Copyright July 2006, R. B. STUART.
