Introduction A painter living in the city by the ocean, traveling the 7 minutes between my studio and my bed and back to my studio.
Interests Oceans, , beach glass, cocoanut rum, tropical everything; flying, classic cars, WWII airplanes, acting, writing, Paris in all centuries, and of course, painting and painting and painting.
Favorite Movies Cat People, Bell Book and Candle, Hitchcock, Mystic River, Orson, Amelie, Edward Scissorhands, early Woody Allen, On Golden Pond, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, In the Heat of the Night, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Blue Velvet, Moonstuck, Raising Arizona, Fargo, Wild at Heart, Crash, Always, Monster, The Incredible Lightness of Being, Pollock, The Pink Panther (60's version), To Kill a Mockingbird, Schindler's List, Dangerous Liasons, Marie Antoinette, The Ladykillers....ok, this is getting silly - there's too many! Make it darkly humorous, or twist it psychologically or make it fun or give me a full gut punch or a thud on my heart strings.
Favorite Music There's driving music, painting music, sitting on the porch music and dancing in my kitchen music. Nothing beats great jazz - experimental for those nights my intellectual side needs to stretch, or standards that sooth all angst away. Coltrane, Blakey, Sonny Criss, Henderson, Bessie Smith, Billy Holiday, Peggy Lee, Bill Evans, Shirley Horn, Anita O'Day, Stan Getz, Madeleine Peyroux. There's driving music, painting music, sitting on the porch music and dancing in my kitchen music. Ry Cooder (Paris, Texas). Kick back on the porch or take a country drive with Greg Brown (amazingly great - lyrics and voice that will melt the socks off a woman - or any other piece of clothing), Lucinda Williams, Kathleen Edwards. Or visit other exotic places with Ali Farka Toure. Some great solid song writing and musicianship that kicks with Molly Johnson, , Russell Crowe (yes, he would have made a music career, big time, if he hadn't hit in acting first - I've seen him live. I hear he even paints - Rennaisance man, he does everything 100%).Imagine the era with Dean Martin, Sinatra (good for the kitchen dancing). Add a timeless ambience to writing or painting with Mozart, Debussy, some great violin, viola or piano music.Drift with Cesaria Evora or Nat King Cole. The Rolling Stones will never die. Jim Foster (friend) quietly writes and sings some great songs, in a Vancouver basement studio, that I've been privileged to hear. And so many more. Music is my inspiration.
Favorite Books Kinky Freidman, Douglas Adams, Carl Hiaasen, Charles Bukowski, Colette, Tom Robbins, L.R.Wright, Janet Evanovich, Saki, W.P. Kinsella, Ayn Rand, Stephen Leacock, Stephen King, Herman Hesse, Flannery O'Conner, Anais Nin......Tom Robbins is a big favourite - brilliant brilliant man. Sometimes a paragraph will make me dizzy with the wild ride he takes me on. Kinsella can crack me up and alternatively gut punch with his chronicles from the Reserve. Can anyone top Steppenwolf or Atlas Shrugged? Read all of Nin's diaries - an amazing era.
