Introduction Louise McCrady, the originator who created the word Shirret to describe her rug making methods, lived in Connecticut half her life, She came from Indianapolis. She was one of the first Annies when it was called Li'l Orphan Annie on the Indianapolis stage. She was a jazz singer, ran a Big Band, a book reviewer, an English teacher, an author. She graduated 5th in rank, magna cum laude, in the first class at Purdue University to admit women to the Arts and Sciences BS program.
