Introduction | Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma) (AAPP) is a non-governmental organization founded by former political prisoners from Burma to continue providing assistance to their fellow political prisoners. It was founded in 2000 on the 11th anniversary of the arrest of Min Ko Naing—the prominent leader of the 1988 uprising—to honor his courage and determination. The AAPP, composed of former political prisoners, is based on the Thai-Burma border and supports activists who have been unjustly detained for peacefully exercising their fundamental right to freedom of opinion and expression. By publicizing the existence of over 1,300 political prisoners in Burma and advocating for their release, the AAPP fights for human rights, freedom and democracy in Burma. |
