Introduction My first teaching job was as a French teacher, traveling between two small villages, where the students were primarily farm kids. I lived in the city, though, not being able to bear the thought of living in a town that thrived on beer, bingo and bowling. What was there to do? I drove 120 km a day. After living on a working farm since 1994, I can say that the stereotypes of both farmer and small town are true.. and not. It's impossible to really know without living on the gravel road. I love that I can get involved and create things from the ground up. I've been involved in the local agricultural fair, I've been directing a community band, I started a women's choir, I'm chairing a committee to get a farmers' market going in the village. I left my full time teaching job in the city and have been creating an imaginative life, woven from the many threads of my abilities and interests. Curious things happen everywhere. This is how it works out here.
