| Introduction | I am a Lay Reader licensed to St. Barnabas Church, Crosland Moor, Huddersfield. Readers first appeared briefly in English churches in the 16th century and the office was revived in the 19th century. It was not until 1969 that Readers were allowed to preach at Holy Communion services. Today,Readers perform nearly all the duties of an ordained Deacon. Readers are lay ministers authorised to preach, teach and minister in ways appropriate to their situation. I am a retired educationalist having spent 40 years working as a teacher headteacher and education manager. I am married to Maria, an extremely successful secondary science teacher, acknowledged by her pupils as a wonderful, caring and gifted educationalist. Now retired, Maria enjoys her pursuit of amateur wildlife photography, the financial proceeds from which are given to local charities. My hobbies include playing guitar, writing, reading, walking in the countryside, injecting fun into life and working for justice and peace in the world. |
