IntroductionFour Minutes and Thirty-Three Seconds is a three part musical score created by American composer John Cage. The piece can be performed by any size group consisting of any instruments, because the score contains nothing but rests. Music is often viewed as a text, but Cage took the idea one step further to show that silence, too, can be text. The idea of this blog is to follow in Cage's steps and challenge the notion of what defines the term "text".
