Introduction I write historical novels set in antebellum Pittsburgh. The Burnt District (2003) is an historical crime/mystery novel framed around Pittsburgh's Great Fire of 1845. It also takes the reader on a ride on the Pennsylvania Canal. The Spectrum, A Novel (2006) uses Pittsburgh's leading role in the US-Mexican War for it's setting. The Throughway explores the Underground Railroad through Pittsburgh and Southwestern Pennsylvania.
