Introduction Dr. Ivor Miller, a cultural historian specializing in the African Diaspora in the Caribbean and the Americas, is currently a Research Fellow at the African Studies Center of Boston University and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History at the University of Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria, where he was a Fulbright Scholar (2009-2011). His most recent book, “Voice of the Leopard: African Secret Societies and Cuba” (UP of Mississippi 2009/ Lagos: CBAAC 2011) is based upon fieldwork in Nigeria, Cameroun, Cuba, and New York City. His first book treated the Yorùbá Diaspora in the Caribbean (written with Professor ‘Wande Abimbola); his second book documented the early Hip hop movement in New York City.
