Introduction I was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia when it was still known as Malaya. Studied in Methodist Boys' School. Spent my early adult years with a not-for-profit group in several countries around the world. Among the most memorable experiences was working in villages in India - living in mud huts without running water or electricity and seeing what the world was like from the ground up! It was not comfortable to say the least but I experienced what life is like for the masses of the world. I spent several years as a huck kwai in Hong Kong and witnessed the rare sight of its mainly passive people taking to the streets in huge numbers during the Tiananmen crackdown in China. Returned back to find Malaysia greatly changed and Kuala Lumpur unrecognisable. Got married and am now continuing my life as a humble wordsmith. I went through the tumultous 1960s in Malaysia and despite May 13 treasured the multiracial nature of the country. Today I see how we failed to let this unique aspect of our nation to flower but at the same time hope the winds of change will give us a second chance.
