| Introduction | Mark Smith started what became Factory Five Racing, Inc. in a garage in Framingham, MA in 1992. From Chemist to car entrepreneur, that first one donor kit car, a 60's cobra replica based on powertrain from the modern fuel injected 5.0 liter mustang, launched a new company that he cofounded with his brother Dave in 1995. Having left the management of FFR to Dave in 2001, Mark has continued to engineer and build some wild machines that range from 1500hp bio-diesel speedboats to 140hp drag harley v-twin choppers and diesel sports cars. After convincing Factory Five to invest in a young Harvard MBA and Marine named Jay Rogers, Local Motors, Inc. was founded and has grown to become the leader in community car design and prototyping, while serving as the hub of co creation in the car world today. Jay runs Local motors with vision and passion from its headquarters in Phoenix. Mark's latest is Smyth Performance, Inc. which is launching a diesel/1.8T vw jetta mid engine kit car commuter this summer(2011) after three years in development. The follow up kit is a pickup bed conversion for the diesel 4 door jetta. Go Green, Go Fast. |
