Introduction	I have been working in emergency management since 1997, in roles with Red Cross and the Department of Human Services. From 2002 until 2007, i was the State Recovery Manager for Victoria. From 2003 until 2006, I was the chair of the National Recovery Committee. In 2005, I was also fortunate to be asked to represent Australia at a United Nations forum on establishing an international recovery platform, in Kobe Japan. Later that year I also formed part of a small team that was sent to Washington to determine if Australia could assist the United States Government in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. In 2008, I was again fortunate to be selected to attend the Australia 2020 summit, in Canberra.
