Introduction | For my webpage, click under "Contact" at left; for my publications page, go to http://library.uchastings.edu/library/faculty-resources/faculty-publications/roht.pdf. My IntLawGrrls transnational foremother is Gabriela Mistral, a Chilean poet, diplomat and teacher. She was born in 1899 of Basque and indigenous parents in the north of Chile. She became a teacher and then school principal, helped with school reform in Chile and Mexico, and worked for the League of Nations. She then represented Chile as consul in a number of countries, and also taught at U.S. universities. She won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1945, the first Latin American woman to do so (see http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/literature/laureates/1945/mistral-bio.html). |
