Introduction | What defines any person? My age? At 59, that's less true than ever. My marriage? Perhaps when I was a young bride, but after 40 years, that no longer defines who I am. Mother of four, Nana to three and soon to gain two more by marriage, teacher, maid, writer, poet, actor, singer, sister, daughter, friend. Somewhere under all of that is who I am, the someone it takes some digging to find, but who is worth the trouble. I began the "For What It's Worth" blog to express the thoughts of a learner, not a scholar. I am a Christian, but - because of the various ways that term is interpreted - that label cannot define me either. Child of God, yes, as are we all. Who am I? I'll let you know when I figure it out. My "A Poem a Day" blog started because one of the few who took the time to find the Ellen inside challenged and encouraged me. The journey into self-awareness, discovery, and fulfillment continues. For 1000 days, I posted a poem a day. A few times I missed and posted two to make up...and now I'm going to relax a little, wait for real inspiration, whatever. Who knows? It's been a great learning experience, a terrific discipline. Thanks for joining the fun! |
Interests | loving, writing, singing, reading, acting, playing, helping, worshipping, learning |
Favorite movies | almost anything but gore and stoopid scripts |
Favorite music | Clair de Lune by deBussy, the wonderfully eclectic mix given to me by a friend for my phone and computer, the Eagles, the Beatles, Livingston Taylor & his brother James, Bach, Hayley Westenra, and the worship music from Hillsong. |
Favorite books | the Bible (sort of partial to Psalms, Proverbs, the Song of Solomon, and the Gospels), Run With the Horseman, The Whisper of the River, When All the World Was Young (Ferrol Sams trilogy), most anything by C. S. Lewis or Carl Hiassen or Leon Uris, Good Poems for Hard Times (selected by Garrison Keillor) and whatever library book I've currently got going. |
You've written a hit musical! How will you avoid having fame go to your head?
Real friends to remind me who I am. I can't live without them, and would not risk that because I was being an axhole.
