| Introduction | A New Yorker for almost 12 years, I'm a transplant from the Midwest. I arrived in NYC for Grad school with $75 in my pocket, no job, and a rented apartment occupied by someone else. 5 apartments and a 401K plan later, I ponder the social role of the 30-something single female in this metropolis I call home. Raised on traditional standards that dictate a woman never asks a man out, no sex before marriage and that bright colored clothes must always be worn, I find my traditional tutelage challenged by re-runs of Sex in the City, dark eyed European men and the comfort of wearing urban camouflage (black). |
