IntroductionI am a father and husband, raised in a conservative, Catholic family, although my ideas don't always swing to the right. I prefer to think they swing towards common sense. I was born and still live in Ohio, and no, I am not a hayseed. I am and have been trying to write a novel for years, but have finally started to really 'get it' when it comes to finishing things. "Just keep plugging away baby"
Interestsmy family, reading, writing, movies, music, politics, the world, thinking, nature, people watching. So much more
Favorite moviesFavorite Drama: The Manchurian Candidate (the '62 version, not that garbage redo), Comedy: The Blues Brothers, or the Royal Tennenbaums, (Do I feel slappy or do I feel funtelectual?) Western: The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, (If you want to know why our laws work, look at John Wayne's character. He is the sheepdog keeping the wolves at bay.) Sci Fi: Dune, Chick Flick: When Harry Met Sally, Many, many more
Favorite musicI grew up loving British invasion stuff, even though it was disco time. (URGG..) The Beatles, Stones, Led Zepplin, and my personal banner waving fav - The Who, (Pete writes songs like they were aimed specifically at me) From there I began learning about (and loving) the blues, motown, jazz, (thanks dad, for playing Brubeck when I was a kid!) classical, world music, early country, pubn, and just about everything else. The two forms of music I just don't dig are contempory country, (also known as 'failed pop musician gets country accent and multi-million dollar contract,) and rap. My aversion to rap has nothing to do with race. Note rock, jazz and blues above. I just don't see it as music. Poetry set to a beat maybe. But its too self inflated and downright plageristic. (You can call it sampling if you want, I call it unoriginality. Can you tell I like music?
Favorite booksWow. There are just too many to list. Mostly its the book I am currently reading. Unless its crap, and then it doesn't last 10 pages. I will however give mention to J. R. R. Tolkein. This guy wrote a masterpiece, and its barely given credit amoung the high brows. The Lord of the Rings was the first real book I read on my own without it being introduced in school, and it just changed my world. I couldn't believe how easily this man could transport me to 'his' world using only words on a page. He created in me a love affair with the written word which will never die. And we just happen to share a birthday. (Not the same year of course)
