| Introduction | I grew up on the beautiful resort island of Penang, in Malaysia. Way back than, my parents used to own a traditional Chinese coffee shop. I used to regularly helped out at the shop and that was when I started learning about cooking some of the best of Penang hawker food which Penang is famous for. I took every opportunity that came by to observe and to learn from the different cooks that used to lease stall space in my parents' coffee shop. And in addition to that, I also learned from my nyonya grandmother and my mom, whom were excellent home cooks. Till this day, I still call my mom for cooking instructions. When I dine out, I like to discover if the cuisines were authentic, tasty, and flavourful. Particularly, the restaurants serving Malaysian cuisines in Vancouver. One of the famous Penang cuisine that I like to cook is the Penang Char Keow Teow. Ironically, I have yet to find any Malaysian restaurant in Vancouver that could match the authenticity, taste or flavour of the famous Penang Char Keow Teow. Therefore, in my quest I will share my cuisine discoveries, explain some of the origins of the cuisines I cook, and other mouth watering dining experiences. |
