Introduction | I have been tatting since 1966 and decided to design my own patterns when I found that I had bought almost all pattern books that were available to me at that time. The flowers developed by making a mistake. I was working with yellow cotton and my pattern didn't lie flat so that it looked like the trumpet of a daffodil. I then decided to design the rest of the daffodil and that was just the beginning. I developed my own way of incorporating beads as stringing beads on the working thread is not only laborious but awkward to work with. At first I used the beading technique for edging wedding veils. You would think that too many beads would be too heavy for the tulle but in actual fact the more beads used the better the veil hangs. Although doilies and edgings are very pretty and useful, the idea of three-dimensional tatting and it's arranging possibilities is targeted at attracting new crafters and keeping experienced ones interested in this beautiful and fascinating art of lace making. The additional materials used to create the flowers are readily available in florists, haberdashery and cake decorating shops, in fact I find them easier to obtain than some of the coloured cottons. |
