IntroductionFor 37 years I have been a resident of Nunawading in the city of Whitehorse. I was elected to serve my community in 2003-2005. I have always been interested in community issues and involved myself in a number of groups both as a councillor and as a private citizen. During my time on council I carried out my duties without fear or favour, striving to strike a balance between economic development and the preservation of neighbourhood character. Working on your behalf has been enormously rewarding. My passion is standing up for residents' interests in planning matters, especially against inappropriate developments. I have attended many VCAT hearings to speak on behalf of Whitehorse residents, especially against inappropriate developments that would be detrimental to the residents and their way of life in this city. Sometimes we were successful and sometimes not; but we did stand up to be counted.
InterestsMy daughter and only child Rebecca sadly passed away in 2013. I am proud of what she achieved during her short life. She studied at Melbourne University and then graduated from the University of New England as an Environmental Scientist. She worked for International and Australian companies based in Queensland. We were both part of the puppy walking program through the Royal Guide Dogs Victoria. Unfortunately our training dog 'Farina' did not qualify as a guide dog, so become our beloved family pet and was with us for 13 years until April 2010; I miss her tail wags . My father was an excellent builder and I spent time with him, learning from him. This encouraged me to go into the field of Decoration and Design. I have used the principles of design when examining plans that were brought before Council. I studied Interior Decorating and Design and graduated with Honours in two subjects. I have run planning forums where the developer, the planner and the objectors have a chance to discuss a proposed development; where all sides have equal time to listen and hear each others' points of view. Sometimes with modifications and cooperation, plans can sometimes be altered to achieve a better outcome for all concerned.
