| Introduction | I met information technology in 1966 in a FORTRAN programming class, preparing punch cards, and scheduling time to process them between midnight and 6:00 a.m. on the single computer on campus. In 1980 I bought my first computer--an Apple II+. In 2000 I retired from a technology coordinator position with the Juneau School District, and since then have used some of my free time to explore what computers can do. Art, on the other hand, has been a closed door for me. I like viewing art in museums and watching others draw and paint. But actually producing art has been off-limits-- until recent advances in technology. The past few years, I have experimented with Macs to edit and publish films. Last semester I took an art and technology class like this one. On a personal note--my spouse homesteaded in Alaska in 1960. I met him when I moved to Alaska in 1968. We have lived in Juneau for almost 20 years with one son—our other two children having moved south years ago. Hiking, running, making and enjoying healthy foods, doing crossword puzzles, keeping tabs on a large extended family in Washington/Oregon, and watching re-runs of Monk take up the rest of my spare time. |
