About me

Occupation Nothing that pays well.
Location South Florida, United States
Introduction My name is Louis. Officially Louis K. Lowy. A former firefighter, my work has appeared in, among others, Coral Living Magazine, New Plains Review, Merge, Ethereal Tales, and forthcoming in The MacGuffin, The Toucan and in audio form on Sniplits.com. My humor poem “Poetry Workshop” was the second place winner of the 2009 Winning Writers Wergle Flomp Contest. My sci-fi novel Die Laughing is scheduled for release in April 2011. I am working toward my MFA in creative writing at Florida International University and am on the staff of Gulf Stream, the University's literary journal. Besides writing, I play bass guitar. My favorite bass to play is my 1970's Fender Precision. My most well known band was Hemlock, which had the dance hits “Disco Break” and “Body Rhythm.” My website is www.louisklowy.com
Interests I collect 1950's 'B' horror and sci-fi posters similar to the one on this blog, and music posters from the 60's to present: whatever catches my eye.
Favorite Movies Changes everytime I see another great one, but classics include The Gold Rush, Orphee, Nosferatu, Ikiru, Carnival of Souls.
Favorite Music What time of day is it?
Favorite Books Don't hate me but I love Pride and Prejudice. Thought McCarthy's The Road was amazing. A great anthology of short stories: The Art of the Short Story. Necessity: John Dufresne's The Lie That Tells a Truth.
