Introduction I read a lot. And then I forget a lot. I don't mind so much if I forget plot lines or even characters, but it pains me to lose the language that I connect with in some way – the words that clarify or reframe some universal human experience, the words that force a reckoning with my own lived experience, or the words that are simply beautiful and clever and worthy of notice. What to do with these little flaming sparks in the wilderness? When I was in high school, I took to capturing passages I liked on post-it notes and fixing them to my bedroom wall like word specimens. This is the 21st-century translation of that impulse.
