IntroductionThe Jackson Outdoor Gallery was a project to try to raise tourism and support the arts in southern Oregon. The primary source of tourism was right next door in Ashland, OR, home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, known as one of the top 100 things to do before you die. The neighboring town of Talent, OR, was to host the gallery. Chris Gilman, city council member, helped get this in motion. The project involved placing outdoor sculptures that’d be on display in common areas that people could be near and enjoy. Eventually, they would be auctioned off, self-supporting the whole organization and having the rest of the funds go to the artists in the town themselves. The end goal was to boost traffic to Talent increase artistic jobs.
