| Introduction | I started racing triathlons when I learned to swim in late 2009; I've done 5 Olympic races, 3 of them with actual swims. My first open water swim (OWS) was a near-disaster; it was definitely a case of anxiety, and the cold water didn't help. Since then I've done a few more OWS's, including one in 60-degree water at the Rehab-To-Racing quarry in Haymarket. I've lost about 50 pounds and have a ways to go; the more I train, the more weight I lose. Subsequently, I'm smashing personal records (PR's) left and right. My goal is to eventually do an Ironman once I'm in proper condition; that may take another year or two. I want to cross the finish line happy and with a smile on my face; and however long it takes to get conditioned to that point, that's what I will do. |
