Introduction Mgr. Rutherford Card. Johnson, Count of Sainte Animie, PhD, STD, JCD, is Patriarch of the Religious and Military Patriarchate of Saint Stephen (Anglican Rite Roman Catholic Church), an autonomous and semi-autocephalous traditional Old Roman Catholic religious and military personal patriarchate with Anglican patrimony that operates non-parochially and focuses on its mandate of mission, service, and charity. A successor to the spiritual and temporal legacy of Pope Leo X in Florence, Rome, and England, the patriarchate is also descended from the ancient Roman Catholic See of Utrecht, which was granted independence by the Holy See in 1145, and from the Catholic See of Canterbury, England. He holds degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Kentucky, and the Patriarchate's principal seminary, Pontifical Georgian College. He is an economics professor and former university chaplain, and also serves as Regent of Pontifical Georgian College. As an author, he has written several books and many articles for scientific journals.
