There is an aphorism that suggests that most people will eventually forgive anyone almost anything - other than being right – and in the case of the British - successful; and especially not apologising for being right or successful.
This is a corollary to the proposition that British folk are suspicious (jealous) of success, and enjoy watching the mighty fall. Schadenfreude maybe be a German word, but is a very British pastime.
I like to think I am an equal opportunity cynic, and will judge who deserves to be tagged here, purely on the evidence.
