About me

Introduction Rob Baxter, Teacher-Librarian, Langstaff Secondary School. I've been involved with (digital) literacy over the past few years, organizing Board-wide Grade 12 Writer's Craft webconferences, involving about 15 YRDSB schools and different authors: Jenna Kalinsky, Sharon MacKay, Richard Scarsbrook, Teresa Toten, John Wilson. I started out teaching with YRDSB in Langstaff's French Immersion programme, but over the past six years, I've been the school's Teacher-Librarian, extending my knowledge of the curriculum. Before teaching, I was in tourism, taking people across Canada and to Europe; researching and writing in French for TVOntario's Chaine francaise; executive assistant at Broadcast News; and long-term on-call translator at The Bank of Nova Scotia. My interest in the Russian language has taken me to Russia 10 times, where I was involved in art exhibits (mainly watercolours of Grand Duchess Olga, youngest sister of Tsar Nicholas II) in St. Petersburg, Moscow and Ekaterinburg. Other interests include meditation, reading, my cottage just north of Orillia. Ask me which one I prefer...
