IntroductionTHE SOCIETY FOR MIDWEST METALSMITHS was founded in 1995 as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating, inspiring and promoting excellence in metalsmithing and jewelry. SMM provides a newsletter, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, a web site with Members' Gallery and a friendly exchange of ideas for its members. Membership is open to all, without regard to race, religion, sex, or national origin. For over a decade the Society for Midwest Metalsmiths has continued its mission to exhibit and educate on the fine art of metalsmithing. SMM has proudly produced metal exhibitions entitled: “Hey, These Things Just Snap Right Off” in 2006, with Andy Cooperman as juror; “Stone/s” in 2004 with C. James Meyers as juror; “METAL Departures” in 2001, with Pat Flynn as juror, "Talismans for the Coming Millennium" in 1999 with Elinore Moty as juror and "At the Table in 1997. These exhibitions have all been well received and helped to educate a new generation of metalsmiths. With "METAL Inclinations1" Online Exhibition SMM intends to reach more metalsmiths and jewelers on a international level. There is a current call for entries for METAL Inclinations2, with a June 30, 2010 deadline.
