Lionesses have no manes. How do they know when they've grown up?
I think such a feeling is as instinctual throughout the animal kingdom as it is with humans. It is that moment in a girls life when she reflects on the past and in an instant of elation and pain she realizes that the days of her girlhood are no more. She may maintain her childlike enthusiasm (the lucky ones keep even their looks), but she is a woman.
