| Introduction | Co-artistic directors Rowena Richie and Susie Hara originally met in 1996 in the copy room of the software consulting company where we each had a day job but would periodically troop across the hall to rehearse at the Z Space Studio, albeit in different theater companies. We bonded over a common background in dance and theater, and found a creative intersection between Richie's midwestern roots and Hara's middle eastern/Californian roots. Go figure: we've been partners-in-crime ever since, and have created and performed several dance theater collaborations, including "Rose and Ruby," "Invocation," and "Transformations." We've been involved in dance theater for over a decade; Richie was a founding member of Strangefruit Theater Ensemble, and has performed with Erika Shuch Performance Project (ESP) and Kraft and Purver. Her dance theater pieces have been supported by grants from the Zellerbach Family Fund and Theatre Bay Area’s CA$H program. Hara has performed with theater companies Word for Word and Teatro de la Esperanza. Her theater pieces have been produced at the Marsh, ODC Theater, and Z Space Studio, and her short stories have been published in several anthologies. |
