| Introduction | 22 years ago, I jumped off the corporate ladder when I got to the top and realized, "What was I thinking? I hate this! I'm too short for this much responsibility!" I quit my job, walked away from the fancy lifestyle, and moved to New Mexico, where I'd never been and didn't know a soul. I soon figured out what makes me the happiest – being around animals – and found a new career that allowed me to work from home and have the time and resources to have a whole herd. One thing led to another, and now I live on a ranch located 7 miles south of nowhere, with a horse (Hank), a donkey (Lucy), two burros (George and Alan), a dog (Smooch), a barn cat (JohnnyCashCat), five hens (Peach, Minnie, Lady Mary, Edith, and Mrs. Hughes), and countless pronghorn antelope, mule deer, mountain lions, coyote, jackrabbits, bunny rabbits, snakes, owls, badgers, packrats, and the occasional great blue heron. |
