| Introduction | I'm an independent journalist based in Los Angeles. I started this blog because I don't think it's that difficult to be a good person, but our culture has made it more rewarding to be callously dismissive and selfishly motivated (see: Real Housewives of...). As for my qualifications, most people who know me say I'm a good person (even though I'm a journalist — not quite Americans' most trusted professionals) — so that seems a decent start. |
| Interests | Ari Karpel interviews celebrities for Time magazine and writes about movies, TV, theater and gay cultural life for The Advocate, where he’s a contributing editor. His work has also appeared in The New York Times, Fast Company, Out, The Hollywood Reporter and other publications. A former writer and editor at Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide, Ari teaches a summer film course at UCLA Extension and sits on the board of Outfest, the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. He is a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he wrote his senior thesis on the migration of retiring Jews from New York to Florida. |
