Introduction Before accepting her current position, Kirsten spent 15 years working with sea turtles in the Caribbean, Latin America, South East Asia and the United States. Kirsten has worked on world-renowned sea turtle nesting studies in Jumby Bay, Antigua and Little Cumberland Island, Georgia, USA. She participated in an mtDNA analysis to determine Caribbean Hawksbill nesting stocks and the NMFS-sponsored Caribbean-Wide Satellite Tracking Project to obtain the data necessary to halt the Cuban hawksbill sea turtle harvest. She's captured live turtles on SCUBA to measure growth rates and worked with Caribbean resorts to develop sea turtle friendly beach practices and educational outreach programs. Kirsten has also worked in industry, observing shipping channel maintenance, beach rebuilding, and bridge/pier construction projects, lending her experience in attempts to mitigate harmful effects on sea turtles, right whales and the marine environment.
