Introduction Ron Lichty has been managing software development and product organizations for over 25 years - transforming chaos to clarity and making software development “hum” - as a manager, director, and VP of engineering, VP of product, and CTO in organizations from tiny start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. His fifth book, "Managing the Unmanageable: Rules, Tools, and Insights for Managing Software People and Teams", first published by Addison Wesley in 2012, has been translated into four languages; Pearson brought out its second edition in 2020. Ron launched a consulting practice in 2012 to advise and coach engineering and product leaders about making their organizations hum; to train teams and executives in making their process more effectively agile; to coach software development leaders in role effectiveness, and from time to time to parachute into organizations as an interim VP Engineering. He also coauthors the periodic Study of Product Team Performance. His conference talks include the importance of user groups, teamwork, and community in software development; the critical roles managers play whose teams have gone agile; and transforming software development from chaos to clarity.
