| Introduction | Up until the most recent (2008) presidential election, I would not have categorized myself as utterly uninformed regarding politics and government--more along the lines of disinterested. I tend to watch squeamishly when heated political debates erupt in my presence, and am reticent about mentioning my feelings on controversial topics. As I watched the above mentioned presidential race unfold, however, opinions and concerns of mine emerged that, frankly, took me by surprise. I suppose they had been there all along, and I had never bothered to align them with a specific political ideology. I still have not, and hope that learning more about government in this class (besides being a requirement for my degree) will inspire me to be a more active participant in my state’s and country’s political systems. |
