The Canadian duo DVBBS (pronounced dubs) is comprised of the Van den Hoef brothers, Chris Chronicles and Alex Andre. These guys have been around for about 5yrs now, and have worked with some of the industry’s best talent. From Borgeous, Sander van Doorn and Marin Garrix, to Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, DVBBS have been hard at work creating some of the best tracks in the EDM scene yet.

They’ve been on tour recently to help celebrate the release of their second official album titled Beautiful Disaster. I must say that the show was pretty awesome. I’m more of a big festival/big venue type fan, but seeing artists perform in a more intimate setting really lets them connect with the fans on a whole other level. There wasn’t any shortage of that here, as it felt like they were playing a private show for their most hardcore of fans. From the deep bass drops to high intensity beats that kept your blood pumping, they had everyone in the place jumping from beginning to end.

If you ever get a chance to see these guys live, I highly suggest it. I also don’t want to leave out the opening act, which came courtesy of another up and coming EDM group called Bad Royale. The Bluetooth and USB wireless features offer connectivity like no other, and the similarity to console gaming will make any gamer’s transition to PC feel natural. GameSir makes this decision an easy one with many features ready to go, just plug in the USB and done. Mobile gaming made easy with the native Android support and cool bracket to play on the go. I found it strange that it supports the PlayStation 3, and well, but the PlayStation 4. But this is a console controller meant for PC/Mobile gaming. The comic book will include favorites like Colossus, Kitty Pryde, Nightcrawler, Rachel Grey, Storm and Wolverine, albeit in his Old Man Logan form. Director Chris McKay brings his Robot Chicken experience to the table and is able to balance laughs, thrills, fun, and heart together with relative ease. Yet the film does suffer from some pacing issues because the 104-minute long film feels much longer.

Much of that has to do with the complex story to get Batman to realize that he’s not alone in this world. It’s not really surprising because The LEGO Batman Movie was written by five different writers (Seth Grahame-Smith, Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Jared Stern, and John Whittington) and the script slightly suffers from it. However, as many writers as there were, it’s amazing that the story is as coherent as it is. For an animated film, there’s a surprising amount of character development and layers between Batman and The Joker. The film takes a deep, intimate look at Batman. Everyone else provides an immense amount of heart despite being one-dimensional characters. But people are willing to look past that because of all the hilarious meta-references, one-liners, Easter eggs, and in-jokes that are in the film. Will Arnett is starting to establish himself as the go-to voice for LEGO Batman. Much like Kevin Conroy embodies the animated Batman, Arnett now embodies the LEGO Batman character. We know how funny he can be, but Arnett is able to show us how dramatic he can be too. He’s able to use his voice convey the misery that Batman’s trying to hide and through that pain, audiences will attach themselves even more to the character. Equally as impressive is voice work done by Zach Galifianakis. To be honest, the footage snippets of Galifianakis as The Joker did not impress but he impresses here. Instead of the psychotic anarchist that we’ve come to associate with the character, Galifianakis’ vulnerable portrayal of The Joker is a pleasant surprise. In a way, he’s able to make audiences care for the character too.

Ralph Fiennes and his recognizable British voice bring a bit of gravitas to the film as Alfred. He’s the perfect choice as Alfred. Michael Cera is adorable and very likable as Robin. In addition, he also brings much of the heart to the film. Sadly, Max Steel isn’t very good either. The story by Christopher Yost is an amalgam of Guyver, Iron Man, and Power Rangers. It’s incredibly hard to mess this up when you have that combination but he pulls that off with an unimaginative storyline and bad dialogue. Not only that but the origin story that Yost tries to build around Max and Steel is barely coherent and all of the characters are one-dimensional.

Relief was supposed to come in the form of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn’s Stewart Hendler. Unfortunately, Hendler seems more equipped to directing short episodic stories. Max Steel is unfocused from start to finish and the way that Hendler progresses the story is a bit boring. Fans of the toy will be sad to find out that the Max and Steel armored combination are sporadic and a majority of it is in the final half hour. In addition, the film blatantly copied the in-the-helmet perspective from Iron Man. It’s kind of sad that the creative forces behind Max Steel weren’t more creative with the material. On the bright side, Hendler handles the special effects aspect of the film with such relative ease – it’s surprisingly good.

For the most part, I don’t blame the cast for their subpar performances. The material they have to work with certainly doesn’t give them much opportunity to shine. Ben Winchell may have a limited acting ability but he seems highly invested in the role. Ana Villafañe is a bright spot in the film as her charming performance makes the film tolerable. So, too, is Josh Brener as Steel. He gets most of the laughs through his Baymax-inspired one-liners. The film’s two veterans, Andy Garcia and Maria Bello, simply plod through the film. />

Koei Tecmo has had a virtual monopoly on the “Historical Chinese Era” video games. Between its meticulously deep Romance of the Three Kingdoms strategy games and its button mashing action-fest, Dynasty Warriors series, there isn’t a part of this era in Chinese history that hasn’t been covered. And with its latest release, Dynasty Warriors: Godseekers, Koei Tecmo has decided to bridge the gap between these two storied, but diametrically opposed franchises. The resulting mashup ends up being a diverting turn-based strategy game, with some clever RPG elements that will likely charm fans of both franchises, but not likely win over a new audience.

Dynasty Warriors: Godseekers makes a significant shift in gameplay from the main series, trading in the frenetic real time pace of battling hundreds of nameless troops with a more deliberate turn-based approach of…battling hundreds of nameless troops. Battles play out over a grid like field, similar to Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem. And tactics are generally simplified to pretty standard rock/paper/scissors-type battles between units and heroes. Battles start out relatively easy (with a robust and easy to use tutorial that walks newcomers through gameplay), but begins to quickly increase in size and scope as the game progresses.

Between battles, items are dropped, which give the game some very fun role playing elements as you upgrade weapons to increase stats. Your officers also get a chance to increase their stats and skills as they progress, giving players a better sense of personalization and creating a stronger attachment to the characters. This is particularly compelling for long time fans of the series, as a number of old favorites return in this game. In addition to your main character, Zhao Yun, pretty much all the major generals from previous games return in some form or another.

The game follows a main storyline of battles, but also includes a number of side quests that allow you to practice and develop new tactics as well as just gain additional XP to make future battles easier. The gameplay itself does an excellent job of ramping up the difficulty gradually, making battles challenging, but never insurmountable. There is a certain delicious glee in figuring out an optimal strategy to beating a particular level. The graphics, and in particular the cutscene animations for some special attacks are well executed with vibrant colors and detail, but they don’t exactly push the envelope of what a PS4 is capable of. That being said, this is a game where the graphics are secondary to the gameplay.

It’s nice to see a publisher like Koei Tecmo decide to broaden the appeal of one of their most venerable brands. With less than a month to go before its initial release in December, STX Entertainment moved the release date for the film by a month and a half. Typically, a move like that spells doom for a film but is The Space Between Us worth the wait or should there have been more space between us and the film?

Although hopeless romantics, lovers of cheesy lovey-dovey dialogue, and young adults will probably enjoy the film. Unfortunately, the film is just as silly as the trailers led to believe. To be fair, some of Allan Loeb’s story ideas are interesting and scientifically plausible. However, when everything is put together, the result is one muddled, ridiculous script. It’s because of this that the film is utterly unfocused. The Space Between Us doesn’t know if it wants to be a sci-fi film, a romantic film, a fish-out-of-water film, a road trip film, or a coming of age film. To top it all off, the film features some pretty bad dialogue even for a young adult film such as this.

Director Peter Chelsom does his best to make sense of all the mess but he ends up making some problematic decisions of his own. The film suffers from a severely long introduction to Gardner’s space dilemma. However, once Gardner reaches Earth then the film begins to pick up the pace and starts to become mildly interesting – maybe even a bit charming. Chelsom also shamelessly amps up the sappiness to 11 during the romantic moments of the film. Unless you’re a hopeless romantic, a sucker for cheesy lovey-dovey dialogue, or a girl under the age of 16 then these moments are highly eye-roll inducing. The film does have some amazing cinematography from Barry Peterson as he captures the beauty of Colorado, Arizona, and the California coastline.

On paper, The Space Between Us’ real draw was supposed to be its amazing cast. A film with Asa Butterfield, Britt Robertson, Gary Oldman, and Carla Gugino should’ve been a breeze performance wise but even that is a mixed bag. This is Asa Butterfield’s best performance with his American accent yet. His sense of yearning and wonder is infectious and his exploration of Earth’s offerings is quite hilarious. As ludicrous as the “Gardner’s biology on Earth” predicament is, Butterfield’s willingness to open up and show Gardner’s vulnerability will definitely make audiences want to root for him. As solid as Carla Gugino is in the film, she doesn’t have a meaty enough role to let her do her thing.

Sadly, Britt Robertson and Gary Oldman are the weak links to the film. As good as Robertson is an actress, her tough girl performance wasn’t as impressive as it was in Tomorrowland. Also, when she’s speaking “hip” dialogue, it’s seriously cringeworthy. It just doesn’t sound natural. Gary Oldman provides the film with a hammy performance as he yells and wanders throughout the film. It’s only at the end of the film when Oldman starts to show some emotion.
