To commemorate this occasion Fred Rogers, aka Mister Rogers visited the Crayola Factory in February 1996, and poured the wax for the one hundred billionth crayon. 1 million commemoration blue ribbon crayons were made and put in a special limited edition 96 count box. Ten of the blue ribbon crayons were wrapped in gold foil, the winner won a trip to the opening of the Crayola Factory and a chance to win the one hundred billionth crayon. The winner of this crayon Darlen Martin won the crayon and sold it back to Crayola for $100,000. If it had been me there would have been no way I would have given it back haha. There were also crayons wrapped in silver and red foil. The silver crayons got a giant blue ribbon crayon replica and the red ones got a plush toy. I was able to secure my hands on one of these blue ribbon crayons. It looks like they were also sold separately at the Crayola Store at the Crayola Factory.
