On our second day, after eating our scrumptious breakfast at the hotel, we hailed a cab going to \u003cb\u003eHo Chi Minh Mausoleum\u003c/b\u003e. Vietnam was under the French colony before it gained its independence. The capital of Vietnam which was known as Saigon was later called Ho Chi Minh City to give honor to the late leader.\u0026nbsp;\u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\n\u003cbr /\u003e\u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\nAs a foreigner, all I can observe is that the locals have high respect for Uncle Ho. Many locals would travel from different places just to visit and pay respect at his resting place.\u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\n\u003cbr /\u003e\u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\nGoing inside the mausoleum, there's a long queue of people that's waiting to see the remains of the leader, us included. Most of the visitors are students, probably field trip?, and others are locals from different provinces and places in Vietnam. The mausoleum is only open every morning so if you want to visit this place, make sure to check first if the mausoleum is open for visitors.\u0026nbsp;\u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\n\u003cbr /\u003e\u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\nIf you're lucky enough, you can also catch the changing of guards in front of the mausoleum. And of course, just like any mausoleum, no picture taking is allowed inside. The guards are strict that even a long stare in the body is not permitted as they will always tell you to walk faster.\u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\n\u003cbr /\u003e\u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\nWe probably waited for almost 30 minutes to 1 hour just to get inside and we probably just saw the body for less than 3 minute? This day was all sorts of misadventure. Our first day in Hanoi was fun. Really fun. I have high regards with Vietnamese food as it is healthily yummy. They always put vegetables on everything and it's just delicious on its own. It has its own distinct Vietnamese taste than when you eat it somewhere else, you would know it's Vietnamese food. So yeah, basically our first day went smoothly. And when I searched the internet, there are actually a lot more scams you can imagine happening in Hanoi and most of it are from taxi drivers. We ate our usual breakfast buffet at the hotel. Got ready and packed our stuff, checked out since we depart for Luang Prabang for that night. We still left our bags at the reception though so we can still roam around and see different tourist sites. And since cabs in Vietnam are relatively cheap (if you hail the right ones), we thought of riding a cab to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum so we wouldn't have to walk. Our fare costs around 40000VND or roughly around P85 which was okay. This was the usual fare, average fare in other words.\u0026nbsp;\u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\n\u003cbr /\u003e\u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\n \u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\n \u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\n \u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\n \u003c/center\u003e\n\u003ccenter style\u003d\"text-align: justify;\"\u003e\n We went inside the mausoleum and saw the remains of the most influential leader of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh. I'm very sure every Vietnamese people would like to visit this place to give respect. We also had coffee in a nearby coffee shop. And even though this is my second time in Vietnam, this was my first time to try their famous black coffee with condensed milk. My verdict? It is soooo good! Turns out his cab was parked along the street. While me, I was just staring at the meter and looking outside from time to time. But then, I spaced out! Demn. Maybe I was still sleepy or maybe the driver got my trust I no longer stare at the meter. It's not stopping. And when I was already ready to question the driver, he stopped the car and said we're already at the temple. Maybe he caught me staring at the meter because we're actually not yet at the temple we're supposed to go to! I don't know how I would contest with the driver. We don't want to cause any fight since we're in a Foreign land. Imagine what we could have done and bought with 400000VND! And not even a luxurious one! Budget traveling to be exact. So while fixing my stuff, I apparently forgot to put the pouch back into my bag. And you know what makes it worse? And they were looking for me the whole time! They knew that I won't be able to go back to Manila if I don't have my passport. Guess my good karma is at work. And luckily, these good people are the ones who saw it because if not, who knows what will happen next. I might still be in Laos preparing and fixing documents/papers for a new passport. But! Upon thorough research, it seems that it is not possible for us to take the bus as the land travel time is around 25-30 hours! Like hello?!!! That would mean a lot of wasted time inside a rectangular moving box with strangers all around you! Not mentioning that the bus doesn't have a toilet so for girls like me, it would be really a hassle to pee just anywhere the bus stops. Noi Bai International Airport is quite far from the old quarter wherein if you will visit Hanoi, this is the center of everything. Attractions, cheap to high-end hotels, travel agencies, shopping area, bars, cafes, restos, everything. I still tried to email them but I didn't receive a reply upon landing Hanoi. So we took the cab going to our hotel. Thank God it didn't rip us off or pulled off any scam. I read that there a lot of taxi scams in Hanoi and it is best to always be vigilant! If you're traveling to Hanoi, it costs roughly around 300000 to 350000VND to travel from the airport to the old quarter. Upon arrival, the lights are off and the hotel seems like closed from the outside. \u0026nbsp;But I think it is pretty normal to hotels in Vietnam as when we travel to Ho Chi Minh city last 2015, the hotel we stayed at also had its lights off when we arrived. Our arrival was also midnight so maybe they're just conserving energy? The church was established during the French colony so it is evident that it's exterior is somehow closely related to the churches in France. As for me, I can't compare both as both gave me different experiences. From floating market in Mekong river to Cu Chi tunnels in Saigon. Then from old quarter to different temples scattered in Hanoi, there sure are a lot of things to do in Vietnam.
