Zachary: the tricky part is you have to wait a second before applying the load, since the load will pull the line too low. So you need to apply the resistance, then wait and switch in the load. I've only done this by hand, and it works may 1/3 of the time, probably because I don't have the timing right. Personally, I'd use a non-Mac charger that provides a steady voltage to avoid the startup sequence.

James, sorry but I haven't looked at batteries.
