Yes, Red Jacket gained his position within the Haudenosaunee as an orator, not a warrior like Brant. Though he participated in battles during the Revolutionary War and War of 1812, he didn’t distinguish himself. He and Brant were on opposite sides of the debate over how to handle the competing English-speaking empires after American independence. Brant moved to Upper Canada while Red Jacket tried to deal with the U.S government from western New York.
Red Jacket was also a rival of another major Seneca political figure of the time, Cornplanter, a half-brother of Handsome Lake. In that case, the two men agreed on the need to make deals with the Americans, but they disagreed about religion.
