I think you missed it in your opening comments.... Yes Jets are supposed to fly in lousy conditions, and yes the F35 was a No Show... Your suppositions missed one simple point, THE DAMN THING SHOULD BE WORKING WITHOUT AN ENGINE ISSUE BY NOW. For this much money, time and effort I would have expected a much higher level of maintainability.
I fail to see how you could have missed this simple point...
